So what is Modest Fashion?

There is no one definition except covering up to one’s own comfort zone, more commonly understood as wearing less skin revealing clothes. Most also agree that Modest Fashion leads to wearing loose clothing, high necks, long sleeves as loosely defined trends.

The word Modest itself varies according to religious and cultural interpretations. However, commonalities exist among women practicing Muslim, Christian and Jewish faiths on covering the head. While it was initially labeled as oppressive most have now accepted it as a matter of choice which can be religious-ethnic driven or on a personal level a higher reason to be.

Recent years have seen the rise of modest fashion with brands likes D&G, DKNY, H&M, and more dedicating collections and in-store sections as the millenial working woman has more disposable income and is fashion conscious with a touch of modesty. According to the Global Islamic Economy Report, the Muslim fashion spend alone in the UK is estimated to reach $467 billion by 2020.
